A PERFECT DAY
by MOUNTAIN LOVER ADAM
My name is Adam and here are some tips for the perfect day at the Kitz. After a cup of coffee and a nice breakfast in Luis’ Gardens, you’ll be full of energy for an action-packed day at the Kitz.
This is what my PERFECT ski day on the Kitzsteinhorn looks like:
To warm up, I choose the red piste 11 down to Langwied. 11 is a really nice, wide piste with a relaxed, flat start and gets more challenging towards the end. After a few runs, I take the Gletsherjet 3+4 gondola to the TOP of the glacier. After leaving the top station, turn right onto piste 4. On 4, after a few metres, turn sharp right and here is my favourite piste. Normally they are used as training slopes, but you don’t need to be afraid, you can ski it calmly. It is very wide, has good snow conditions and you can also pick up some decent speed. This piste leads to Gletsherjet 4 and you can ski it again or ski the Kitzlifte with the two beautiful red pistes No. 4b and No. 4b, which are on either side. After a few runs you are ready for the Maurerlift, which is right next to the Kitzlifts. A great black piste with a nice gradient and right or left options, I prefer the right.
After getting over this nice black run, it’s time for the first break. I really like chilling at the Ice Camp. The Ice Camp is an igloo with a bar inside and outside. I usually find a deck chair where I enjoy a beer while watching the snowboarders perform their tricks in the snow park below the Ice Camp and thinking about my next move. It could be the red long run No. 12 at the Kristallbahn or one of two other black runs – No. 2, which is on the left and not normally skied, or the Kitzsteinhorn highlight Black Mamba with a gradient of 63%, by far the steepest run on the entire glacier. Or I choose one of the five freeride routes.
Actually, skiing on the glacier is all about fun and freedom. You’re not really restricted and you can ski almost anywhere (depending on your ability) and you can discover new spots on every run. That’s why I love skiing here, because the Kitzsteinhorn is a BIG PLAYING FIELD and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!
Places for a beer: Eislager, Langwied
